ZICHYDORF CHURCH BOOK CD’S

Many members have expressed to me their excitement at finally receiving their CDs. In some cases, the CDs had problems. I apologize for this, but I decided from the beginning that it was not feasible to quality check every file on every CD and that the most efficient solution was to respond to problems as they occurred. So far 63 members have purchased the set. One member suggested that I distribute a list of purchasers to all other purchasers so that you can communicate with each other. However, since virtually every member is a purchaser, I suggest that you use the regular membership list. However, this suggested a place where all of us can stay in touch on all issues. Perhaps a chat room or listserver would be useful. What do you all think? Can the technically savvy members suggest something?

A couple of people contacted me about how to cite the CDs when listing bibliographic data. The following possibilities were suggested by Annette Fulford based on the example listed in the book below and are open to interpretation:

Mills, Elizabeth Shown. Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Company Inc., 1997. 0-8063-1543-1

Bibliographic Citation (CD ROM from original records)

Zichydorf, Hungary. Roman Catholic Church Registers, 1789-2003. 3 CD-ROM set. Regina, SK: Zichydorf Village Association, March 2005.

Primary Citation (Footnotes or Endnotes) (CD ROM from original records)

1. Given Name & Surname baptism, Roman Catholic Church Registers, 1789-2003, 3 CD-ROM set (Regina, SK: Zichydorf Village Association, March 2005), ZVA 1, 1_baptisms 1789-1842, 201. Recorded by officials at Bela Crkva Archives (Weisskirchen). Zichydorf was also known as Zichyfalva, Hungary, and Mariolana, Serbia. Today the village is known as Plandiste, Serbia.

For CD 3 the citation can change to: Recorded by Lászlό Rudolf at Ürmenyhaza parish rectory on behalf of the Zichydorf Village Association. Today the village is known as Jermenovci, Serbia. (Any other notes can be added to this section).

Quote the CD number: ZVA 1, the file name: 1_baptisms 1789-1842 and the page number: 201.

2. [Surname] baptism. ZVA 1, 1_baptisms 1822, 201.

LASZLO IN REGINA

There was strong consensus from all who responded that we should contribute toward László Rudolf’s visit to Regina in October, 2005 for the SGS convention. I have offered to contribute $300 to his trip.

NEW AT THE LIBRARY

Most of you are familiar with the AkdFF (Arbeitskreis donauschwäbischer Familienforscher), the German family history group for Donauschwaben. This group publishes a quarterly newsletter full of research help, historical articles, family research and research queries. I have frequently observed articles of interest to our area of study. A North American branch of this group has been formed and has translated these newsletters into English. They are now available in the SGS library.

GROUP TOUR

I will rough out some ideas over the summer for presentation in the Fall newsletter. I have shortened the mailing list to only those who have expressed interest. If you are interested, but have not yet communicated your interest to me, please do so now to remain on the contact list.

HISTORICAL PLAQUE

I have reminded the Victoria Club’s President to keep this item on their agenda this Spring and I hope that we will soon reach some resolution.
